The long-term goal is to develop a robotic platform whose navigation strategies are governed by a bat-inspired neuronal model. This interdisciplinary project seeks to replicate a bat’s capabilities in a robotic system by integrating biologically inspired neural computation with drone-based navigation.
List the primary objectives for your project here. What was the initial situation? What did you seek to change or influence? What were the essential considerations throughout your process as you worked to achieve your goal?
This is an ongoing research project that will be continued in the Higgins Lab at the University of Arizona as part of the CURE (Course for Undergraduate Research Experience).
By expanding the use of invertebrate models in addiction research, we can accelerate the discovery of new therapeutic targets and deepen our understanding of the complex interplay between genes, neural circuits, social behavior, and general intake (i.e., drugs/food)
The primary objective of the current research project is to determine if the Gromphadorhina Portentosa is a viable option for addiction research and neuroscience-related fields. In the experiment, I am investigated behavioral and neurophysiological changes and withdrawal symptoms from nicotine exposure in Madagascar Hissing Roaches.
As neuroscience continues to evolve, embracing the potential of invertebrate models will be crucial for advancing our knowledge and developing effective strategies to combat addiction while also finding ways to enhance the cognitive processes in daily life.
Using invertebrate models in neuroscience research offers a cost-effective approach due to their simpler nervous systems, which are more accessible and less expensive to study than vertebrates. These models enable researchers to conduct many experiments with reduced financial constraints, facilitating broader and more diverse scientific investigations.
This project finished abruptly as my primary investigator left the university, and I could not continue the research without the PI.
